{Fingers} Crossed

I’ve got my fingers crossed.  How about you?  Here’s a little of what I’m wishing for…

That’s right, we have some snow in the forecast and I’m really hoping that it comes through.  I can’t wait to pull out my cross-country skis, snowshoes and even just lace up my sneakers and run in it.  We need SNOW!

Last night I went running and while we do have a light dusting of snow, most of what we have is ice.  So I proceeded to run around in the dark (with my safety vest and headlamp, don’t worry Mom) with two dogs in tow trying to avoid areas with too much ice and then ice skating across the secret ice patches that I either didn’t see or were impossible to avoid.  Did I also mention that it was something like 15 degrees?  Yeah, that too.  Needless to say both the dogs and I voted on keeping the run short and we called it quits at three miles.  They were troopers though.  With some musher’s secret on their feet that protects them from both the cold and the salt, they seem relatively happy to be outside.  So while we were happy to get our run in…. we are ready for more snow and less ice! This weekend would be great since I’m hoping to do my long run on Sunday.  Maybe with some scenic snowy backdrops…

What about you?  Do you run outside in the winter or head to the treadmill?  Do you have snow in the forecast this weekend?

To me, there is nothing better than a snow run. We don’t get too much snow in town, but we can reach the snow-line easily from a number of nearby trailheads. Treadmills are the devil’s work. Happy trails!
