Next Stop…. Washington DC

You read it right, next stop Washington DC.  Ok, well the Suntrust National Half Marathon is still two and half weeks away, but it still feels like it came out of no where.  Yes, we’ve been haphazardly training for it since sometime in January, but these things always have a way of sneaking up on me.  So, it’s two and a half weeks until race day and I’ve never felt more ……. well, not ready.

Over the course of this training cycle, I’ve managed to be pretty undisciplined in terms of following a training plan.  I’ve managed to undergo some pretty life changing circumstances.  And now I’m dealing with a nagging ankle pain that makes the first 2 or 3 miles of every run a little bit like torture.  But on the upside I have managed to log two 10 mile long runs at a 9:40-9:50 pace with another one on tap this weekend.  I’ve continued to average around 25 miles per week.  So!

I suppose it’s not really a question of whether or not I can complete the distance, but more a question of how much it will feel like torture.  Actually I’m hopeful that between completing the race with my running peeps and having some great scenery, I’ll forget all about the torture piece.  Here’s to hoping any way!

And on that note ……. any advice on great places to eat, things to do and sites to see while we’re in DC?  I’ve been told it’s time to start planning.  So, can you plan for me? Oh and I need to plan the outfit.  It may involve socks like the ones below….. or maybe it’s time for some new ones! Hmmmm…….

Love the socks! Even when we prepare perfectly, we still feel as though we are not ready… Sometimes running regularly and not following a strict plan provides the best, unexpected results..

Some friends of mine recommend eating at Georgia Browns. Good southern home cooking is the word so perhaps I would wait until after the race 🙂
